1,700 programs 78,800 students
Welcome to Bright Students, a three-part energy education program for 5th-8th grade students. The program includes a pre-visit video, an interactive 45-60 minute classroom presentation, and a post-visit lesson. During the classroom presentation, students look closely at electricity generation and energy sources, ride the Energy Bike to power incandescent, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs, play an engaging conservation game, and finish with an in-depth look at energy conservation, efficiency, and how to make practical changes in their own homes. Each student receives an Energy Savings Kit - a drawstring backpack containing energy-saving LED light bulbs, a low-flow showerhead, a faucet aerator, an LED night light, and more! The presentation and related lessons are aligned with ADE standards. Bright Students is sponsored by Tucson Electric Power and offered free of charge to schools in the Tucson area.
All of the necessary documents for pre-visit and post-visit lessons for the Bright Students program are available below for download.
The pre-visit video and accompanying student worksheet have been designed to prepare your students for the on-site presentation.
If you cannot view the adjacent YouTube video, two downloadable video versions are available below. The high resolution file is preferable, but if your download time is too slow, or your computer doesn’t play back the larger file correctly, you may choose the low resolution file (the content is exactly the same, but the quality of the visuals is slightly lower). Be patient, as the video may take some time to download.
Post-Visit Teacher Lessons
The post-visit activities are designed to help your students make personal connections to the content of the Bright Students program. The lessons come in different levels of difficulty, to meet the needs of your students.
